PROBLEMS WITH THE VOLVO CROSSOVER DRIVER
Complete electrical failure: Some units of the XC40 Recharge had reported complete electrical failure where the electrical system blacked out and stalled, also stranding the driver and the occupants.Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) failure: This failure had caused a lot of issues wherein the car’s wheels locked and sent no power to the wheels which made it difficult to tow the vehicle as well.The dashboard illuminates but there is no power to the motor. Starting issues: The car has exhibited some issues while starting and would not react to any input from the driver.False warning lights: Many people have reported the 2021 Volvo XC40 Recharge’s instrument cluster to illuminate false warning lights which, in some cases, has also resulted in the car stalling out.The Volvo XC40 Recharge is a pretty new vehicle in the market and does not have many user reviews in the market but, to have a fair point, we’ve dug out some of the user complaints that we could find: Electrical issues: The recall affected just 4 units wherein a loose/missing bolt that secures the cross member bracket for the electrical motor in the engine compartment might decrease the structural protection of the crossover, increasing the risk of injury during a crash. The latest recall for the crossover was made on November 12, 2021, and was made for the 2021 XC40 Recharge only. This can prevent proper securing of the child restraint system and, as such, make the vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection". The issue addressed was regarding the seat belt automatic locking retractors deactivating. The recall was made for the 2021 XC40 Recharge and many other models like the gas-powered XC40, the XC90, the 2021-2022 XC60, and the S60 among many others. The second recall for the crossover was made on September 1, 2021, with NHTSA Campaign Number 21V682000. The recall was made regarding the disconnection of the high voltage system which may be caused due to the Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) microprocessor being reset, causing loss of motive power and increasing the risk of a crash. The recall was made on February 24, 2021, and carried an NHTSA Campaign Number 21V109000. The first recall for the XC40 Recharge was made for the 2021-2022 model years. Although the crossover can be given the benefit of doubt because of how the initial model years usually perform.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge is a very new car to the market wherein the 2021 model year marked its debut, but the crossover still managed three recalls in its short tenure. There aren’t many user complaints registered on the NHTSA since the sales haven’t been much but we did our research and dug out some of the common issues faced by the XC40 Recharge issues. Having said that, the XC40 Recharge has still been recalled three times over two model years but given its freshness in the market, we can surely give it the benefit of doubt. The XC40 Recharge is a very new model and has been in the American market since the 2021 model year. Given the segment, there are no cars in close competition but the EV segment offers the Jaguar I-Pace and the Tesla Model 3 as solid rivals. The lineup gets three trims for the 2022 model year - Twin, Twin Plus, and Twin Ultimate - with the prices starting from $52,795. Talking of powertrains, the XC40 Recharge adds the much-needed EV variant to the lineup. It provides a lot of features, performance, versatility, and style with its sleek design and capable powertrain. The Volvo XC40 is a pretty successful model for the Nordic manufacturer.
